Schools of the Year – Concord shortlisted for second year running!

Thursday July 1, 2021

Concord is delighted to announce that it is on the shortlist for an award in the prestigious annual Independent Schools of the Year, for 2021 – the second year in a row that Concord has been shortlisted. Last year Concord was a finalist in the ‘Rising Star of the Year’ category, thanks to the exceptional achievements of recent leaver Ian Soh, setting up the #MoreViralThanTheVirus (MVTTV) campaign – an online global movement of young people, recognised for their response to Covid-19 and collaboration with the World Health Organisation during the pandemic. This year, Concord has been shortlisted in the ‘Student Careers’ category, for the college’s “life-changing” Medicine Support Programme. With over 50 students applying for courses in Medicine, Veterinary Medicine or Dentistry each year, Concord aims to provide a world-class programme of support and preparation. Success has been evidenced year on year, and in 2020, despite a record 23,710 people applying to study medicine at UK universities and an ever-competitive application process, 41 students gained places at medical, dental, or veterinary schools from Concord, most of which were places at Top 10 UK universities. The ISOTY competition, now in its fourth year, has received a record number of nominations and school entries in the 24 awards categories on offer – four more categories than 2020. According to Dr Helen Wright, Chair of Independent Schools of the Year 2021: “The response we have had has again been overwhelming this year. “Each year, the aim of the awards has been to highlight the excellence of the student experience in independent schools. “On the evidence of the submissions, the independent school sector in Britain is demonstrating resilience and agility, while continuing to deliver a first-class educational experience to its pupils despite having to live with ever-changing levels of restrictions.” She added: “It has been wonderful to learn about transformative and innovative projects and programmes and we have so enjoyed reading your stories. “Congratulations to Concord College on being shortlisted in the Student Careers category and well done for the great work that you do!” Access the full shortlist by clicking here. Finalists will be revealed on 7th September, before a panel of judges will meet to decide the winners of each category, expected to be announced in October 2021.
