Pastoral Care
Every member of staff – teaching, pastoral or otherwise- is committed to helping our students to thrive at Concord and beyond.
Lead Boarding Parents live in attached accommodation to the 17 boarding residences.
Along with Assistant Boarding Parents, Boarding Assistants, Pastoral Assistants and Tutors they work together to support students’ every day wellbeing. Heads of Year, Heads of House, Heads of Boarding Divisions and the Senior Team add a further layer of support.
The pastoral needs of our day students are similarly cared for by the tutor system, pastoral assistant team and of course Heads of Year, Heads of House and Senior Team.
It is this joined-up care that aims to make every child well known and cared for.
Pastoral Care at Concord
We work to encourage the healthy development of well-rounded individuals and support our students as they grow through adolescence into capable and independent young adults.
PSHE lessons, assemblies, and talks (including from external experts) address aspects of relationships, healthy lifestyles and social pressures.
The College’s nursing team, based in its purpose-built medical centre, care for on-going medical needs as well as helping students who become unwell. They are available seven days a week.
Students have access to support if they need a listening ear, with options ranging from staff listeners (who volunteer and train for the role) to appointments with professional counsellors to whom students can self-refer for support. Of course, boarding and pastoral staff, tutors, teachers and other adults on campus are also ready to listen. Lower School Monitors and Prefects are also invaluable sources of advice and support for students especially when they are new to the college.
The dining room at Concord offers a healthy and varied selection of food for breakfast, lunch and supper with both British and international tastes being catered for. Fresh fruit is always available throughout the day. Allergens lists are provided for each dish to enable students with food allergies or intolerances to select appropriately.
Students can get advice on exercise and nutrition from PE and Games staff and make use of the fitness centre in the sports centre.
We are keen for students to participate in and to be aware of the vital importance of physical fitness and well-being for a healthy and happy life. All students in Concord participate in at least one sports or fitness session each week. For students in the Lower School, there is considerably more, including weekly timetabled P.E. lessons and Wednesday afternoon sessions. All students can explore a wide variety of sports on offer after lessons.
We take great care to ensure that students are healthy, well cared for and helped to flourish.
We encourage students to lead a balanced life here at Concord with emphasis placed not only on academic study but also on personal well-being. Senior Leaders and Pastoral Team Managers make time to discuss individual students during their weekly meetings , and are always working to care for all of our students, and to promote a healthy and happy environment.
