Performing Arts

Of the many happy memories Concordians take with them when they leave, taking part in musical and dramatic performances is arguably one of the most popular.

Concord College Winter Showcase

Here at Concord, everyone is encouraged to participate in events; from professional-standard musical showcases to open-mic nights. The benefits are enormous; students are encouraged to be creative, to be proud of their individual abilities and to work as a team. The positive effect on building their selfconfidence and communication skills can be profound.

Form 3

In Form 3 our youngest students are introduced to the work of William Shakespeare and they put on their own outdoor Shakespeare play in front of children from local primary schools. Past performances include Macbeth, The Tempest and A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

House Arts

The hugely exciting and eagerly awaited annual House Arts competition pits students from our four ‘houses’ against one another. Students of all abilities are challenged to conceive and perform the best songs, dances, poems and short plays in front of a cheering audience and a panel of judges which decides the overall winner.

Musical Shows

Concord’s musical shows are performed at Concord’s own theatre, The Morris Building and simultaneously broadcast via Concord’s YouTube channel so they can be enjoyed by parents around the world.

As well as talented singing and acting performances, the sets, lighting and costumes are of the highest calibre. In 2022 Concord alumna, multi award-winning international makeup artist Ophelia Liu, one of Concords ‘art legends’, returned to demonstrate how to design the stage makeup for Concord’s performance of Queen’s ‘We Will Rock You (School Edition)’ musical.

Winter Showcase

Concord encourages those with musical backgrounds to further develop their skills. Our Winter Showcase, at the modern theatre in Shrewsbury, invites talented students to celebrate and share music and dance from their home countries in front of an enthralled local audience.
