Musical Success for Macy

Form 5 student Macy, who performs as Macy O has been named the winner of the Young Songwriter 2023 competition in her age group (13-15).

Macy’s song “Love Rampage” came top from a huge field, with the competition as a whole attracting around 1000 entries from talented young writers from around the world.

The winners were announced on Saturday September 23rd at a Live showcase at The Tabernacle in Notting Hill, London.

The competition, now in its 13th year, is run by Song Academy with a vision “to help every child, regardless of background, express themselves powerfully by writing their own songs at a formative time of their lives. Inspiring young people to express themselves and share their songs has a transformative impact on their well-being self-esteem, confidence, creativity and motivation to achieve their potential”

No stranger to musical success, Macy will shortly be launching her first album “Journeys”. She was last year named as a “Star of the Future” at the Shropshire Music Awards.

Macy began performing at an early age and has performed at events throughout the UK, including events surrounding Eurovision earlier this year.

Macy’s songwriting began during lockdown and was recognised in 2021 Song Academy Young Songwriter 21 when she was a finalist with her song Voices.

Back at School, Macy is keen to help others and is an Outreach Monitor in the Lower School. In 2022, she joined other students performing in the College’s “Sing for Ukraine” when she sang her own song.
