us to support Children in Need this Friday

Wednesday November 11, 2020

There is no denying that things have been difficult and different for everyone this year, but at Concord we are hoping to make a difference to lives of young people by supporting Children in Need and have a bit of fun in the process. On Friday 13th November staff and students will be dressed in pyjamas for a small donation to raise money for the 40th annual Children in Need appeal. As sixth former and Outreach committee member Ailin said: “Pyjama Day isn’t about dressing to impress. It’s about showing it’s OK to let the world see the real you, so BBC Children in Need can help more young people feel better about themselves.” Added Ms Caroline Desvaux, Head of PSHE:Any opportunity to raise awareness of mental health Issues in young people is welcomed at Concord and the light-heartedness of the day is an effective way of drawing attention to what is a serious and important topic. “At Concord we also try to focus on the proactive side of tackling mental health issues; not getting bogged down in statistics but instead showing our students the positive steps that they can take to improve their mental well-being. Children in Need pyjama day is a great way of doing this!” According to the Children in Need website: “Findings from our recent research show that right now the coronavirus pandemic is having a huge impact on the mental health and wellbeing of UK children, and for those who were already facing disadvantages, life has become incredibly difficult. “It has never been more important that we keep funding life changing projects and charities, providing crucial services for vulnerable children and young people through this crisis.” Said Mr Jeremy Kerslake, Vice Principal (Pastoral): “The students at Concord College have supported the fundraising efforts of Children in Need for many years now. It is always good fun to see them supporting those less fortunate than themselves by dressing up in their pyjamas, dressing gowns and “onesies” since we are already a non-uniform school and we need to do something a little different. “I am certainly looking forward to exchanging my usual suit and tie for more comfortable pyjamas this Friday!” To support the Concord fundraising effort and donate to Children in Need visit the Concord JustGiving page:
