celebrates fifth consecutive House Cross Country win

Friday October 9, 2020

Wednesday marked Concord’s annual House Cross Country competition – one of the college’s most highly anticipated and attended events of the school year. Once again – like previous years – students and staff taking part were pleasantly welcomed by sunshine mostly, despite the rain and wind throughout the week, and the competition was highly competitive. Students, totalling over 400, competed in their year group ‘bubbles’ and the five races took place in the afternoon, starting outside the back of Main Hall, finishing just in front of the Parliament Barn – covering a total of 2.66km. Said Concord’s Assistant Principal (Enrichment & Examinations) Dr Phil Outram, who calculated the final standings: “I was delighted to see that well over 400 students and supporting staff managed to complete the course. Congratulations to all who made it round. “I hope that everyone enjoyed participating in this year’s event. “There were many remarkable performances, and the Sports Department will be handing awards out shortly to all of the individual winners and Gandhi House Captains in a formal trophy presentation.” A special mention goes to Form 5 student, Beth (Teresa House) for achieving the fastest time of the day – an amazing 10.13. Of course, there could only be one winning House on the day – and incredibly, Gandhi retained the trophy for the fifth year in a row, in an impressive first bid to compete for the overall House Trophy for this year’s events. 1st – Gandhi                (1664 points) 2nd – Pankhurst         (2000 points) 3rd – Teresa                 (2109 points) 4th – Mandela             (2334 points) Added Dr Outram: “Collectively, it was another fantastic day for Gandhi – to retain the trophy for a fifth year is a remarkable achievement, so well done! “There were many other great individual results on the day too. “I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mr Canney and the Sports Department for organising such an enjoyable event, and to all the other staff who helped on the day.” Access the full results by clicking here.
