new location for Concord’s annual ski trip

Tuesday March 5, 2019

During the half term break, a group of Concord students and staff enjoyed a week-long skiing trip in Gollen, Austria. The trip – which for the past three years has been to Pila, Northern Italy – was the most attended ski trip yet. 48 students across all of Concord’s forms attended, accompanied by 6 staff members staying in a hotel-resort in the town of Alpendorf. Concord’s Sports Hall Manager, Mr Will Harrison who accompanied the group said: “The group consisted of mixed abilities. This year we had more beginners than ever, but then we also had intermediate and advanced level skiers too. “The vast majority of the group skied, but we also had a couple of snowboarders, who were capable of boarding down some black runs – the highest difficulty courses. “It was fantastic to see the students develop over the five days. “Some students who started in ‘nursery’ were skiing down red runs by the Thursday! “The whole experience was fantastic, and we couldn’t have wished for more helpful and personable instructors and reps.” The Concord cohort were lucky enough to experience glorious sunshine throughout the week and incredible views, all except for the last day, with blizzard-like conditions and visibility restricted to just 10-15m on the slopes. All week, students engaged in a range of après-ski activities, including bowling and sightseeing in Salzburg, bum-boarding, recreational shopping and visiting a local ice cream parlour and other eateries. Ms Helen Archer, another staff member present on the trip, said: “As well as the beautiful surroundings and the skiing, the best part of the trip was the camaraderie of the students and staff. “The behaviour of our students was impeccable and it made for a fabulous trip. “The trip is hugely popular with staff and students each year and is a regular fixture, so I certainly think there’ll be plans for another visit next year.” To view the photo gallery from the trip, click here.
