We Will We Will Rock You!

It’s finally our We Will Rock You show week! And here’s Killer Queen and Khashoggi wrapping up the amazing show experience for you all. Altogether we have four shows for different audiences, but as both of us are double casted, we actually got the opportunity to sit down as audiences for the Wednesday show and enjoy the musical as a whole.

To be frank we felt as exhilarated being the audience as being performers on show night, getting our programmes and looking through all our faces inside them, squealing with joy. It really was such a precious chance for us to watch through the two whole acts as we usually had to stay backstage and get ready for our scenes during our weekly intense rehearsals. Our hearts were pounding as the show began and it was so entertaining to look at the performance from an audience’s point of view. Being familiar with all the jokes, the melodies and the lyrics, we definitely sang along to every song and enjoyed ourselves, fanboy/fangirling all our favourite characters on stage.

During the intermission, we went off to buy donuts offered by the Outreach team, grabbed a drink, then headed off to the dressing rooms to applaud and cheer our friends on. We shared our excitement through great small chats and supported our double casts as well. Plus, it really was very rewarding to see our lines and scenes being interpreted in another approach by our peers. Overall, even being the audience, the show was absolutely mind-blowing and I’m sure the remaining audience was also fascinated by the cast and crew’s hard work.

Thanks Killer Queen! And now it is Khashoggi reporting for duty. On Tuesday and Thursday the two of us got to perform on stage and it was the most amazing production we could have ever dreamt of being a part of. When we arrived for our pre-show preparations, we got pep talked by our amazing producers Ms Russell and Ms Perrins, telling us how good and ready we were and how we should just enjoy our time. All hyped up, we got food and then makeup, or shall I say a makeover! The makeup and hair team led by Ms Tonks is so professional. It immediately transformed us into iPlanet citizens. Before we knew it, we were on stage, doing our vocal exercises, singing our “oos” and “ahs”, getting ready for all those magical tunes written by Queen. Then, before we knew it, we were getting ready backstage. It was all so quick!

To be honest, I could not remember much of the things that happened when we were performing or on stage, it was all a blur, went so quickly… I did remember, however, the rapturous applause we got as we sang our final song, all of us together on stage. All our hard work, since September, has come to an end, and I cannot tell you all how happy and grateful we were. It went so well, the crowd received it so well, the show ran so smoothly, everything was so perfect. For the cast, especially cast who are in 6.2, this musical “We Will Rock You: School Edition” will forever stay in our hearts as a Concord memory.

Lastly, thank you to everyone who came and watch the show, who supported the Mercury Phoenix Trust. A big thank you to the technical team who made it happen, the lights, audio, props, set, and all the rest of it, all looked fabulous! Thank you to the cast, you were the people who made it so special. And lastly (I promise), thank you to our producers, Ms Russell and Ms Perrins. Without them, the show will not even happen. It was their initiative, zill, and drive which made this musical into a reality, 10 years after the last one. Thank you everyone! And now Khashoggi and Killer Queen signing off! Let’s keep rocking!

We Will Rock You Update!

Greetings, everyone! It is Khashoggi bringing you an update of We Will Rock You: School Edition production!

January just passed and we are now in February, which means we are finally in the month when We Will Rock You: School Edition gets shown in Concord, right in our very own Morris Building Theatre.

Rehearsals are going on at an incredible pace! With a whole day on Sunday and 4 hours on Monday, the entire team of our musical production have been working extra hard to put on a great show for all our VIPs! Apart from the singing and acting – which are obviously essential – and the star of the show, major breakthroughs and attention to detail on the audio, choreography, stage effects and props are also bringing the musical to life.

A big thanks to Ms Russell, our Drama teacher, for all the stage directions and encouragements in acting she gave. Massive applause also go to Ms Perrins for all the time she spends in front of the piano and musical scores, training us all to sing the right melodies, no matter if you are a lead, soprano, alto or backing vocal. Special ‘shoutouts’ also go to Mrs Weaver, Mr Gluck, Mr Bannister, Mr Henry, Ms Tonks, Ms Archer, Mr Hotchkiss, and many more who have and are helping with the show.

This Friday, the set will finally arrive! So, we will get to do a run on the complete set, which is very exciting indeed! More on that from the Killer Queen, next week…

That’s all from me, Khashoggi signing off!
