Concord is a diverse and inclusive community. Our active and broad social activities programme encompasses something for everyone to enjoy.
We help students to settle in socially by running a full induction programme. The welcome events include games and team building nights for boarding houses and whole year groups, scavenger hunts and a colour run and, of course, the ultimate team building on our high-ropes course. An early highlight of the year is “British Day”, an opportunity for some fun and games celebrating being here in the UK with their new friends. Modelled on a fair, there are swing-boats, dodgems, ice-cream and a ferris wheel and staff and students get to know each other a little better.
Social activities throughout the year range from whole college events, like Lunar New Year celebrations or the annual Christmas dinner, to smaller events arranged by Boarding Parents or student-led by prefects or international societies.
Concord students have access to a huge range of clubs and societies, some are run by staff, while student-led societies are also encouraged and celebrated.
On campus, students have access to our modern student kitchen (shortlisted for a RIBA Stirling prize) which is a hub for celebrations and general gatherings throughout the school year. Students enjoy having a space to make and eat meals with friends, sharing aspects of their own culture and learning about others. Our campus also hosts two well equipped common rooms; the Old Chapel provides a quieter space for students to study, engage in games or play the grand piano, while the West End has a snack bar, pool table, foosball and is home to the regular student discos.
Away from campus, Concord provides regular buses into Shrewsbury, a market town entrenched with Tudor history and encompassed by the River Severn. Students can spend their free time visiting some of the many shops, restaurants and cafes that Shrewsbury has to offer. Prefects and Monitors introduce new students to the town with guided visits at the end of induction week.
During the holidays, our dedicated pastoral team organise other exciting day trips for students who stay at College to enjoy, such as city trips to Birmingham, Manchester and Liverpool. In previous years visits to the zoo, trampoline parks and escape rooms have also been popular.
