Visit from Harmony, Our Sponsored Guide Dog
This month, Concord was visited by our sponsored Guide Dog, Harmony. Harmony is now almost 11 months old and she is continuing to progress excellently through the puppy raising phase of her Guide Dog training.
Students from our Outreach team had the chance to meet Guide Dog volunteer, Sue, and Harmony’s Puppy Raiser, Ian, when they visited with Harmony last week. Ian was proud to share that Harmony is “one of the best pups he’s ever raised”. She can be soft and gentle or strong and confident depending on the situation she is faced with.
During the visit, our students had the chance to converse with Ian and Sue about life as Puppy Raisers, as well as the next steps in Harmony’s Guide Dog training. Recently, Harmony has practiced visiting busier environments, such as a steam engine rally, where she remained happy and calm despite the loud noises and strange smells!
After the question and answer with Ian and Sue, Harmony was taken on a short walk around our campus, where she was able to run freely and play with a few of our students. As highlighted by Ian, “the only thing harmony loves more than food is free running!”.
We are so happy about Harmony’s positive progress. Concord are excited to hear more about her advancement, and hopefully her progression to ‘big school’ in the near future, where she will begin her formal Guide Dog training.
