Finalists in the Best schools Awards 2023

This year, we are pleased to announce that Concord College was selected as one of only five finalists in two categories of Muddy Stilettos’ ‘Best School Awards’ 2023.

Concord entered the ‘Inventive Sports Programme’ and ‘Most Dynamic STEM Programme’ categories and was successfully selected as a finalist for both awards.

Our Inventive Sports Programme, which celebrates a ‘sports for all’ ethos, begins as soon as our students arrive at Concord. Students kick off the academic year by taking part in activities on our high ropes course, and our exciting Concord Colour Run. Every student’s relationship with sport at Concord begins with team work, self-discovery and fun, just how we mean to go on throughout their time here.

The sports programme incorporates core PE, outdoor education and competitive sports. Not forgetting our elite sport programme, which recognises Concord students who demonstrate excellence and potential in sports, including several nationally ranked athletes. These students are offered tailored individual support which includes coaching, nutritional advice and strength and conditioning work.

For the dynamic STEM programme entry, we showcased our wide ranging extra curricular STEM provision and super-curriculum. This takes full advantage of our £11.5m state of the art science building, which consists of 22 laboratories, 2 large prep labs and museum grade displays. Key aims of the programme are to maintain and grow students’ enthusiasm for science beyond the GCSE and A Level curricula, and further develop their practical scientific skills.

Our super and extracurricular science program has been a great success, encompassing many societies such as MedSoc and Engineering, which have nearly 300 members combined. We also run discussion groups, enter academic competitions (read about how our Sixth Formers won the ‘Science at Heart and Lung competition’), and our excellent facilities have allowed us to run community projects and outreach work within the local community (read about our latest Lego League tournament for local primary schools).
