Duke of Edinburgh Expeditions
35 Form 3 and 4 (Y9 and 10) students set off in glorious sunshine to complete their Bronze Duke Of Edinburgh Award expeditions last weekend.
Mr Weaver was pleased that the students had all had a successful and enjoyable expedition “The weather throughout the weekend was gloriously sunny, which of course brings its own challenges. The students set off from their start points and skirted Caer Cardoc and Hope Bowdler, with a few groups choosing to go over the hills, rather than round them. They continued across farmland to the hay meadow near Minton that served as our campsite for the night. The second day saw each team ascending the Long Mynd (Mynd is Welsh for Mountain) with most finishing at the ice cream shop in Cardingmill Valley.”
Hayden in Form 4 described his weekend, “It was my first DofE expedition. The journey was tough yet worthwhile. We cooked in the wild, took in the scenery, and even saw the Milky Way with our naked eyes! I really liked navigating in the wild. We had challenges, such as becoming lost and puzzled by the junctions, but we eventually figured it out, and the process of figuring it out is similar to solving a puzzle, which is similar to adventuring! I would absolutely aim for Silver next year.”
