Bookings Open for Concord’s Medical Futures Conference 2023

Concord College Medical Futures Conference 2023

For external students in Years 11 & 12 living in Shropshire, the West Midlands and Welsh Borders, the booking form can be accessed at the end of this article.

Concord’s 6th Medical Futures Conference is set to take place on Saturday 4th March, 9am-5:30pm.

Book your place at Concord’s Medical Futures Conference here.

This year, the key annual event will be face-to-face, but it is also retaining the option of online attendance.

The day will involve a morning of lectures focused on navigating the highly selective admissions process to enable you to make a competitive application to medical school. In the afternoon there will be the opportunity to talk to practising doctors, medical students and experts in the admissions field.

Additionally, there will be many workshops, including hands-on clinical skills, medical technology, admission tests, work experience and interviews.

The day will end with a highly entertaining stage show from Tom Warrender of Medical Mavericks.

Due to the popularity of the event in past years, we are offering two booking options:

  • Online through Microsoft Teams. Giving access to all morning lectures and the stage show at the end of the day.
  • In- person. Attendance all day, including free lunch and transport from Shrewsbury to Concord College. This option provides opportunities to speak directly to doctors, medical students and university admissions staff.

There are limited places for both options, priority will be given to students in Year 12 who attend state schools, but we hope to accommodate everyone, either in-person on online.

The Medical Futures Conference is being generously supported by local doctors and Concord Alumni travelling from all over the UK. In addition to this, many universities are sending staff and we are particularly grateful to Keele Medical School, The Medic Portal, Medical Projects and BioGrad Laboratories for their continued support of this event.

Concord’s thriving Medical Society has now grown to nearly 200 members and the supporting programme continues to develop and provide new and exciting opportunities for those considering medical based careers. In 2023, Concord’s MedSoc will host a day of dissection with ‘Anatomy Lab’, whole day admissions workshops on UCAT and BMAT, residential visits to London medical schools and a return to Kenya for three weeks of medical work experience, volunteering and a challenging trek to the summit of Mount Kenya.

Every year, Concord guides over 40 students through the challenging application process for medicine, dentistry and veterinary medicine, but we are delighted to be able to also support hundreds of the region’s aspiring medics, working in close collaboration with the William Farr Academy at the local Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. For external students, participation in the conference will provide access to a huge range of support materials from the Concord Medical Society and invitations to further support events running later in the year.
