I recently signed up for one of these “moonlit walks” that I’ve been hearing all the rage about. When Mr Brown asked us why we were interested in going on this walk, the responses were varied. Some enjoyed walking with friends; others enjoyed exploring the countryside. (I’m sure though none of us said it, the prospect of an evening away from routine and studying, for one night, was quite appealing!) Whatever our reason was, little did we know we were in for a night of greater fun than any of us could have ever hoped for or imagined.

We exchanged our books for hats and ventured out to an extinct volcano overlooking the nearby town Church Stretton, where our adventure was set. We donned Mr. Brown’s LED headbands, beautiful weapons against the dark and set out. The moon acted as our lighthouse and a natural motivation. The higher we scaled, the more the clouds parted until we caught sight of the clear moon in all its glory.

On the way up, we stopped for a quick rest as we sipped hot Ribena and chewed on sugar-ring donuts, feeling an overwhelming sense of accomplishment at our progress. The road we emerged from seemed microscopic now. And when we reached the peak, we sat against rocks together, away from the outside world, listening to “A Sky Full of Stars” by Coldplay and just stunned at the stars.

I’d like to thank Mr Brown, Dr Fessey and Mr Flynn for this walk. I would highly recommend the Moonlit Walk!
