It is a long-standing tradition at Concord to mark the autumn season and celebrate with a spooky and fun event. On the 19th of October, students were brought together at the “Halloween disco and haunted house” for a night of fun and cheerful fright.
The Outreach students worked incredibly hard to bring the haunted house to life and raise money for the charity UNICEF. Ever since the beginning of the term, they were working every Friday to plan their ideas and source pros, costumes and more. On Saturday 19th October, they worked tirelessly from 1pm to transform the classrooms and corridors in Castle Block into a haunted house and run through Dress Rehearsals. Quoting Mrs Hotchkiss, “seeing students from different year groups working together seamlessly and so creatively was wonderful”. The event was very popular and at one point the queue was going down the stairs all the way out the door.
“As the outreach events co-ordinator for the Haunted House, it was amazing to see the planning come to life! Watching people react to the eerie setups and the twists we designed made all the effort worthwhile. It was thrilling to walk through the event myself as well, seeing it from both perspectives really highlighted the team’s hard work. Seeing everyone immersed in the spooky atmosphere, especially the moments of suspense we created, made it a memorable experience for everyone involved!” – Sohaib (6.2)
There was a strong sense of community with the whole student body all dressed up and gathered under a roof, especially in the disco where everyone was screaming the lyrics and dancing/jumping/vibing to the music. The whole event was truly memorable, especially for the 6.2s as this will be their last Halloween at Concord. In total, £135 was raised. A massive thank you to Mrs Hotchkiss and everyone for making this possible, and we hope to raise more money for UNICEF through future projects.
