Conway 2024
Faith looks back at a highlight of 2024, the 6.1 outdoor education trip to Anglesey.

As a new student in sixth form, I was “warned” about the Conway Trip and how physically taxing it was. I was happily surprised however by my experience at Conway in June after the 6.1 AS levels. Despite having an upcoming A-Level as a further maths student, I was raring to go as the activities sounded very thrilling. Concord offered us many splendid choices consisting of both dry and wet activities like; gorge scrambling, rock climbing, surfing, mountain biking, river and sea canoeing/kayaking and so much more.
I greatly enjoyed the activities my group chose, gorge scrambling in particular was my favourite as it also encouraged teamwork and for me to step out of my comfort zone and try something new. Gorge scrambling was an adventure that brought us together, as we often had to lend a hand—literally—helping each other navigate the rocks and overcome challenges like mini waterfalls or slippery footpaths along the way. We ended the day by jumping into a pool by a waterfall and sliding down smooth wet rocks that formed a natural water slide.
I remember the other days being filled with so much fun. For example, on day two we had so many activities ranging from mountain biking to campfires. We tried many activities and even strolled through a picturesque green field dotted with sheep, chatting and singing along the way as we made our way to climb the traverses of a nearby quarry. After dinner, we had several choices like playing games or building a campfire but my friends and I preferred to roast marshmallows over an already-built campfire and participate in a sweet singalong.
Day three began with an energising arm workout as we kayaked along the docks, battling the elements to reach a nearby island. Our efforts were rewarded with a hearty lunch at a cosy island shop. The return journey was a breeze, as we fashioned makeshift ‘sails’ and let the wind carry us back to the docks and played ball games using our kayaks. After dinner, we were surprised with an ice cream van as students poured out of the dining hall to purchase ice creams or sorbets to enjoy along with the warmth of the setting sun.
Unfortunately, as a further maths student, most of us chose to head back to school a day earlier to revise. However, some decided to stay and my friends enjoyed the evening walk along the beach after their dessert. Students also had the chance to visit the National Trust Property, and Rounders or even participate in bushcraft.
I truly loved the Conway trip and often find myself reminiscing about it even now in December. This trip holds a special place in my heart, filled with nostalgia, fun, and endless laughter. From the funny bickering to the late-night talks in the dorm, every moment brought us closer together. Even now, in December, we still find ourselves reminiscing and laughing about the memories we made back in June. This is one of the best school trips ever, and it’s something that I will really miss especially when I graduate.
