Concord Art Students Top in the Country

The Concord Art department has been celebrating some fantastic success recently at both GCSE and A Level. Two Concord GCSE Art students, Jessie and Eric, and one Concord A Level Art student, Cheryl, were among the top scoring students in the country.

All three students scored maximum marks in all of the components of their exams, putting them in a small group of the most outstanding Art students nation-wide. A small selection of their brilliant work is currently on display in the Art Department in celebration and as inspiration for other students.

Jessie explored the theme of ‘Natural Forms’ and ‘Distortion’ with her work while Eric’s work was largely based around the theme of ‘Memento Mori’ – the reminder of the inevitability of death. Both experimented with several mediums including sculpture, charcoal, pencil and digital artwork amongst others.

Cheryl is currently studying Fine Art at Parsons Paris and recently visited Concord during a short trip to the UK. She explored the theme of ‘Metamorphosis’ in her work which featured several members of Concord staff as well as her fellow students.

Concord Art Teacher Miss Williams commented “The Art Department is incredibly proud of Eric and Jessie for achieving the highest GCSE grades in the country — a true testament to their creativity, commitment, and deep engagement with the course. Teaching Jessie over the past two years has been an absolute pleasure; watching her grow in confidence, refine her skills, and push her artistic thinking. They both made the most of every opportunity to develop as artists — exactly the kind of mindset we encourage and celebrate in the department.”

Concord’s Head of Art Mr Hudson added “All students demonstrated genuine commitment, enthusiasm and confidence in their ideas, and as a department we could not be more proud. Achieving so highly in this way went way beyond simply talent; these students worked courageously, took risks, listened to their teachers and drove their own learning. They remained curious throughout their course and somewhat ironically, it was their acceptance of the value of mistakes as part of the creative process, that ultimately lead to their success. True artists in every sense!”
