Success in Economics

Concord College Economics Students

The Concord College Economics Department has been celebrating the recent successes of their 6.2 students.

In the International Finance Olympiad, 6.2 student Isabelle received a UK top 6 award and progressed through to the international finals.

Karsen, also in 6.2, competed in the International Environmental Olympiad and received a UK top 6 award and got through to the international finals in which he got International top 10 award and Gold.

Speaking about her experience, Isabelle said:

“Participating in the International Finance Olympiad was a rewarding experience that challenged and strengthened my skills. From discounted cash flow models (DCFs) to macroeconomic problems and policy, I was tested on both my mathematical skills, but also on my strategic thinking and decision making ones through multiple choice questions. Competing against people from all over the world sharpened my analytical skills whilst reinforcing my passion for exploring economics, finance and accounting related principles in the future.”

In other news, Concord’s team in the World Economics Cup made it through to the World Finals.

The six students, all in 6.2, did three exams and created a presentation over a week in July and managed to get the Europe Second Place Award. An amazing achievement which means they made it through to the World finals. In these World finals they, very impressively, gained a Gold award meaning they are ranked World top 10!

There were also some individual successes:

Karsen – Individual Gold award and Top 10 in Europe

Ian – Individual Silver award

Joshua – Individual Bronze award

David – Individual Bronze award

Lyndon – Individual Silver award and Top 10 in Europe

Tristan – Individual Silver award and Top 10 in Europe

“The latter stages of this competition require coordination, commitment, and skill, so the students ought to be commended” – Mrs Rumble, Head of Economics.

The student’s Economics Teacher Mr Farrell commented:

“This team’s achievement is nothing short of extraordinary. Throughout the summer, they worked tirelessly together and delivered outstanding performances in every stage of the competition, earning Gold in the UK round, Gold in the European round, and Gold in the World Final. To be ranked among the top ten teams in the world is a phenomenal accomplishment and highlights the ambition, dedication, and excellence that Concord students consistently display.”
