Department relaunches House Pool competition

Thursday April 15, 2021

Concord’s Sports Department has relaunched the annual student House Pool competition – another exciting Inter-House event contributing to points towards the yearly Inter-House Trophy. The competition – restarted after several years absence – has been ‘thoroughly enjoyed’ by Concord’s students already according to Sports Hall Manager, Mr Will Harrison. Last week, House Pool commenced in Concord’s West End, with year-group competitions each evening from Form 3 all the way through to 6.2. Games were played with a ‘best of three frames’ rule, with four players per team (boys and girls) per year-group bubble to be Covid-safe – with two players paying at once, with a further two substitutions. Said Mr Harrison: “We are very pleased to add this event to this year’s Inter-House schedule, after several years without it. “It’s a good competition that students enjoy and engage with.” “Unfortunately, for safety reasons, the competition was for boarding students only. There could not be any spectators from other year-groups in the West End, nor House Captains – but students in the same year-group ‘bubbles’ were welcome and supported their friends.” With strong competition amongst the four Houses throughout the week, the final evening for 6.2 students was integral to the overall standings and House points allocated. And it was Mandela who reigned victorious on the final night, winning all three matches, leaving the overall standings as follows: 1st – Mandela = 9 pts 2nd – Pankhurst = 8pts 3rd – Teresa = 7pts 4th – Gandhi = 6pts Said Mandela House Captain, Hazel in 6.2: “I am proud that the team has won some valuable house points through the House Pool competition and delighted to see students still engaging in House events, despite the Covid-19 situation. “It is extremely vital that these events are still being organised since it unites the Concord community and takes our minds off the busy workload. “Therefore, I look forward to more events being organised in the future!” The next Inter-House competition of 2021 is Concord’s Triathlon event, taking place on the afternoon of May 12th.
