Eagerly anticipated by students and staff alike, Concord’s annual Sports Day took place in the last week of April, with the sun shining for most of the day.
The four Houses (Teresa, Gandhi, Mandela and Pankhurst) competed in a range of track and field events, attempting to gain valuable points towards winning the coveted House Shield.
With the inter-house competitions being so highly contested this year, the day did not disappoint. All four houses put in strong performances, and the overall House Shield is still up for grabs in our final school term.
126 winners medals were awarded and 13 school records were broken.
Congratulations to our individual champions for outstanding sporting performances; For lower school boys, Louis set two school records for Pankhurst, whist we had two joint champions for the girls; Sophiya and Jennifer from Mandela House both accumulated two events wins and one record each.
Similarly, the upper school boys consisted of two individual champions; Chidera and Chris accumulated two wins each for Pankhurst. And the upper school girls champion was Ava for Mandela, setting two school records.
Overall, Pankhurst came in first position in the track events, followed by Teresa, Mandela and Gandhi. However the field events saw Pankhurst finish in fourth place, Gandhi in third, Mandela in second and another solid performance by Teresa House, finishing in first place.
This left the final standings as followed:
4th Place – Gandhi, 3rd Place – Mandela, 2nd Place – Pankhurst, 1st Place – Teresa
Although an extremely close contest, Teresa were the deserved overall winners and were awarded the House Athletics Shield. Congratulations to them, and well done to all competitors. Lastly a huge thank you to all staff that made this event possible.
