workshops for 175 primary schoolchildren at Concord

One hundred and seventy-five children and their teachers from nine primary schools in Shropshire and Powys enjoyed a fun singing day at Concord. The children from Year 2 to Year 6 were introduced to songs from all over the world in the morning and afternoon during singing workshops in the Concord theatre. The invitation to the local schools – Bicton, Rushbury, Cleobury Mortimer, Christchurch, St Edwards, Condover, Much Wenlock, Whixhall and Newtown – was extended by Concord’s Head of Music Mr Stavros Kokkinos. He had met Amy Bebbington, formerly of Whitchurch, at the Sherbourne Summer School two years ago and invited her to visit Concord and take the workshops. Amy, who has a Doctorate in Choral Conducting and is co-founder of the internationally recognised London Choral Conducting Competition, said: “Singing is good for the well-being and health of children. “The children, who have been singing in two and three parts in the workshops, will take back lots of songs to play in their classrooms and playgrounds. “They will be able to enjoy action songs and team playing exercise songs.” Although she now lives in Surrey, Amy spent the first 18 years of her life in Whitchurch and added: “It is so nice to come home.”
