Concord has achieved its best-ever A level results – including a new record: 97% of grades awarded were A*/B which is a record and for the first time ever students achieved 100% A*/C. Two other key statistics were 40% of grades awarded to Concord students were A*s compared to only 25.5% nationally and 84% were A*/A (second best ever). One hundred and twenty students (out of the year group of 179) achieved 3 A grades or more and 63 students achieved 3 A*s or more. A staggering 17 students achieved 4 A*s or more. Said Principal Mr Neil Hawkins: “It is hard to find the words to describe the magnificent academic achievements of Concord’s leavers of 2019. “In a year when all the talk has been that A levels are becoming harder, for 84% of all grades achieved at Concord to be A* or A grade is quite phenomenal. “I am delighted that 97% of grades were B grade and above and humbled that no student achieved less than a C grade in any subject. “Concordians are not geniuses: students’ hard work, talent and determination have been rewarded.  Congratulations to them all.” Said Mr Hawkins: “As societies – rightly or wrongly -  we measure our young people at the age of 18.  Their grades have a significant impact on their futures and open the door to the next stage of life. “More fundamentally, as human beings, we all have hopes and dreams: fulfilling one’s potential in any sphere gives confidence and can bring these dreams come a little closer. “I hope that is how our wonderful 6.2 leavers are feeling as they open their results this morning and realise what they have achieved.” He added: “I am extremely grateful to the teachers, tutors, heads of department, heads of house, boarding staff and to the whole staff community. “The combined commitment, skill and professionalism of the Concord team has made the extraordinary possible.”
