MUN

success for Concord students representing team USA

Wednesday December 11, 2019

Last Saturday, Concord students attended an exciting Model United Nations (MUN) competition at Shrewsbury Girls’ High School, ‘excelling’ as team USA. There were several schools from Shropshire in attendance, including Shrewsbury High School, Shrewsbury School, Shrewsbury Sixth Form College, The Marches and Concord. And according to Concord English teacher, Mrs Robyn Wear, the team of 8 Concord students, ranging from Form 4 to 6.1, excelled on the day and won ‘best team in competition’. In a full day of discussion and debating, the Concord team were representing the USA, with each student representing a different committee: Security Council – Kaitlyn (F4) Economic – Judy (6.1) Political – Kenneth (F5) Disarmament – Kieran (6.2) Special – Osman (6.1) Human Rights – Seb (F4) Environment – Bee (F4) Said Mrs Wear: “Amazingly, every student won either Best Delegate (1st place) or Commended Delegate (2nd place) for their committee, so, fantastic individual performances and a wonderful team performance overall. “We also had Kishen from Form 5 act as a chair for the Security Council, which is not a competing position, but is a role only given to experienced MUN delegates who can demonstrate great organisation and professionalism. “The Security Council is the most coveted council to chair, so being selected for that position was also a great achievement.” Congratulations to the Concord students for their excellent MUN performance – each student has received a certificate in recognition of their work.
