Concord’s

Summer School launches free online programme this summer

Tuesday June 16, 2020

We recognise that for many students, studying abroad as a young person is as much about being away from home, meeting friends from around the world and seeing Britain and the British way of life, as it is learning English, Science or Maths as is the case at Concord Summer School.    Whilst we cannot welcome students to our beautiful 80-acre Shropshire campus this summer, we can still invite students to join our community and benefit from some aspects of our Quality English and Quality Education programmes.   Concord Summer is going online delivering free activities, learning opportunities and challenges that students of all ages can do from home (recommended age 13-17).    All activities will take place on social media, with the opportunity for safe and secure online meet-ups with friends supervised by staff, and a dedicated platform to view detailed activity information, as well as upload photos and videos of completed tasks.   Said Mrs Kari Quant, Concord’s Summer School Director: "At the point of making the decision in March to cancel our 2020 residential summer courses, we had over 250 students enrolled to join us throughout July and August.    “Whilst many other schools around the UK and the world moved to online tuition, we wanted to do something different… We reviewed our student feedback and sign-up trends for our integrated learning and Concord Plus activities, both of which enable students to improve their English through doing practical activities.    “We then picked the top 20 activities that would be appropriate to be delivered through short online videos and enable students to work independently at home on them."   Not only does the programme give students the opportunity to see what it is like to study at Concord Summer, but it is completely free to join, enabling more people to access it anywhere in the world and share in the experience.    What's more, each time a student completes the daily task and submits it to the Summer Course team, it generates an entry to the ‘End of Summer Prize Draw’ with the top prize being a free place to study at Concord Summer 2021 (T&C’s apply).     How does it work?
  • Students need to follow ‘ConcordSummer’ on social media (Facebook, Instagram and Twitter), and follow the hashtag #ConcordSummerOnline
  • Students need to log-on to Facebook or Instagram each day between 20 July and 14 August (weekdays only) for the ‘daily task’
  • Students should watch the daily video, complete the worksheet/task and upload a photo or video of themselves doing that activity– submission details will be provided
Who can take part?
  • The course is recommended for students aged 13-17
  • Students aged 10-12 can also take part with the supervision of parents or guardian
  • Any level of English
  • Any nationality
How much does it cost?
  • £0 – we are offering these activities online for free
  • Students can choose to purchase a limited-edition Concord Summer Online t-shirt during the course (for a small charge plus postage)
 Why take part?
  • The activities and projects offer a flexible way of learning and socialising
  • The open online approach means that current students, alumni students and prospective students can log on and see what activities at Concord Summer are like
  • For each task that is submitted each day, a ticket for a prize draw will be generated
  • Certificate of attendance for all participants who complete all 20 tasks
  • PLUS, for students who have done a summer course at Concord before, completion of all 20 tasks will add a year to their total towards the exclusive FIVE-YEAR AWARD
Mrs Quant added: "Students, parents and agents have all been contacted about this opportunity, and we’d like to share it with the general public, with the hope that the online community can grow. Together, we will get through this, and we will be stronger for it.    “We hope this free programme of activities will give Concord families and the public some hope for the months to come and a chance to see what makes Concord so special.    “We can’t wait to welcome students back to our campus soon."   So, what are you waiting for?    Follow ‘ConcordSummer’ on social media and follow the hashtag #ConcordSummerOnline  SIGN UP NOW.
