Concord

supports local charities with end of year donations

Monday July 4, 2022

Students and staff at Concord have generously donated clothes and food to a number of charities in Shrewsbury, following the end of the academic year. According to Concord’s Domestic Services Manager, Mr Paul Simpson: “The students, in particular, can’t always take all of their possessions home with them for one reason or another – and many of our boarders fly from all over the world. “For clothing or other possessions they have accumulated during their time at the College, our students would rather it be used to help the local community. “They recognise the importance of giving things ‘a second life’ and these items can be hugely worthwhile elsewhere.” This year, Concord has supported Severn Hospice, Hope House and also the Shrewsbury Food Hub. With students generously leaving some possessions, clothing and non-perishable foods, the Domestic team have boxed up over 40 parcels to support these charities and donated the equivalent of three vans worth of materials. It is with thanks to the whole Domestic team for cleaning, sorting and organising these support parcels following the end of term. Mr Simpson added: “Not only does this help reduce waste at the end of the school year, but it also enables the Concord community to continue supporting good causes in the local area.” Last week, Lorraine Clorley from Severn Hospice commented: “The donations are helping us, in essence, raise money for terminally ill people who need care. Without generous donations like these, Severn Hospice – and other local charities – could not operate and do the life-changing work they do. “Our store is actually the largest charity shop in Shropshire, so these recent donations and those from previous years are hugely appreciated. “Thank you very much to the students and staff at Concord College.” The staff and volunteers at Hope House and Shrewsbury Food Hub were equally as ‘delighted’ for the support and expressed their thanks to the students.
