staff member features on BBC’s ‘In Pictures’ for third time

Thursday November 18, 2021

A Pastoral Assistant at Concord has featured on the BBC website for the third time since June, as a result of her photography skills. Mrs Linda Rowe, who has worked at the College for 10 years, has featured in the ‘In Pictures’ section of the BBC website, marking her success in the ‘Your Pictures’ category for three different months. The ‘Your Pictures’ category requires readers to submit their best photo (or a maximum of 3 photos) based on a set theme, with the competition taking place on a weekly, bi-weekly or monthly basis. Perhaps most impressive, submissions come from all around the world so getting selected is – or should be – a rarity! Mrs Rowe, who has enjoyed photography as a hobby for over 5 years has most recently featured in the November edition on the theme of a long journey. “I heard migrating geese in the sky, in Shropshire. I looked up as they flew by the moon. The start of a long journey.” Her previous features were in June (‘In my hand’) and September (‘New Beginnings’), which you can view at the end of this article. Speaking of her involvement in the ongoing competition, Mrs Rowe said: “I take part for the enjoyment, as a hobby – I carry my camera with me everywhere in case of a good photo opportunity, or otherwise just use my phone. “At Concord for example, there’s always nice opportunities here, such as the nature or the sunsets after prep. “I try to take part where I can but have not entered every time. Sometimes, it’s difficult to come up with a suitable interpretation of the theme.” Interested in taking part too? The next theme is ‘Home Comforts’, and the deadline for entries is 23rd November 2021. Upload your photos by clicking here or email them to (T&Cs apply). As part of her hobby, Mrs Rowe also enjoys uploading her best photos – most of which are taken with her Canon SX740 – to Instagram and Facebook. And her success is growing. Mrs Rowe, today, announced that one of her other photos has been selected to feature in the Lingen Davies Architecture Photography calendar for 2022, in aid of the Lingen Davies Cancer Fund. The local charity hopes to sell the calendars to raise funds and make a positive difference to lives affected by cancer in Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin and Mid Wales. A huge congratulations to Mrs Rowe!
