Lower

School Activities- Autumn Term

Thursday December 22, 2022

This half term, Concord College’s Form 3 and Form 4 students took part in Lower School Games on Wednesday afternoons: a carousel of activities that supports students in trying out something new. After attending taster sessions for each activity, students decided which one they wished to pursue for the duration of the programme. They could choose between mountain biking, rock climbing, high ropes, fitness and golf. Students on the mountain biking programme spent their Wednesday afternoons in and around the beautiful Shropshire Hills. Across the four weeks, students practiced ascents, descents and effective gear changing. The group endured an array of weather conditions throughout the course, from clear and sunny skies to foggy, rainy conditions. Reflecting on the mountain biking programme, supervising staff, Mr Pheby exclaimed: “The students’ skills were really put to the test in some tricky conditions, but we can be confident that their abilities have improved significantly since when they first started the course”. Students who chose the rock climbing course visited a local climbing and bouldering centre. This experience was the first of its kind for many students, who were eager to learn more about climbing and belaying. Additionally, the afternoons were a great way for students to let off energy on the Action Walls, a colourful climbing section with over twenty fun, challenging and unique walls to climb. Meanwhile, on campus, students were busy getting involved in the high ropes and fitness activities. Outside on the high ropes, students worked together on team building exercises, as well as supporting each other on individual high ropes challenges. Inside, those completing the fitness activities took part in relay races and tasks that enabled students to learn about different aspects of fitness. Next term, Lower School will turn their focus to inter-house sports on Wednesday afternoons. Students will represent their house in any of the following sports: badminton, basketball, curling, football, netball, volleyball or unihock. Options such as trampolining and tag rugby will be available for students who are not competing in inter-house sports. To view the Lower School Games photo gallery, click here.
