A

first mud run for Concord students and staff

Friday May 3, 2019

A group of Concord students and staff took part in a gruelling, exhilarating and mud-filled adventure run last weekend, at Eaton Mascott, near Shrewsbury. In association with Ultimate Fitness Experience and UK Mud Run, The Shropshire Mud Run is an annual event, in which competitors take on ‘Shropshire’s toughest terrain and obstacles’. 11 students from 6.2 accompanied by 3 participating staff members competed in the 5km event, covering challenges such as mud, hills, bogs,  marsh land, lakes, river crossings, tunnels, mud walls, crawls, slides, trenches, hay bales and more. Although an untimed event, participants often time themselves and compete against friends or family – and there’s also a few prizes for fastest male and female, as well as a fancy dress award. Despite not winning any prizes, the Concord team thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Said Charmaine from 6.2: “I think the event was an amazing experience and it was definitely a great start to my weekend. “The most exhilarating part of the run was when we had to swim under barrels in a freezing lake. “I felt that many of us really enjoyed the challenge despite the unpleasant weather that morning, but we can now say that we've completed a mud run!” Concord’s Sports Hall Manager, Mr Will Harrison said: “I would definitely like to add this event to the calendar for next year, for more students and staff to enjoy. “It was a great day and a much needed revision-break for students ahead of the busy exam period.” Click here to view the Concord team photo gallery.
