SPORTS REPORT: U16 County Netball Tournament

Team List: Karina (Captain), Carissa,  Eve,  Mimi,  Aimee, Flori, Izzy, Georgia.

In our first game we were playing Thomas Telford. We were doing quite well in the first half so by half time the score was already 3-1 to us. In the second half we managed to get into space really well and marked tightly, but some of our passes weren’t very accurate and we made a couple of silly mistakes because we were rushing. But despite those little mistakes, we still won 5-2.

Our second match was against Oldbury Wells. Starting off strong we made some interesting passes and we were working together well as a team. The footwork was good and the shooters’ movement within the D was working well.

This resulted in a 4-3 lead at half time! They were finding us a tough team to beat.

The second half however, we started to become more tired. We still spaced out and worked well together as a team and fought for the win. All in all, we played extremely well and ended with W’s all round with an 8-6 goal difference.

Our 3rd match was against Ludlow. We had a strong start with good passes and strong forward movement. We made the right runs and passed forward, which was what we were working on during practices. Despite their efforts of trying to bring the score back, we ended the first half with a leading score of 4-2. In the second half, we slowed down as most of us were fatiguing, but we kept going. This proved to us that we needed to work more on our fitness, but our perseverance was great. In this half we got in 3 more shots and conceded just 1, ending the game in a fantastic score of 7-3.

Playing Bridgnorth Endowed was quite hard as we were all tired and they had amazing defenders. We still managed to get a few shots in, resulting in us getting half the goals that they had. We played very well considering this was one of the first times that we had played as a team. In the first half, they were 2-3 up and we thought we could pull it back, but in the second half, they sadly made their standards higher. The game ended 8-4 to them.

Our last match was against Idsall. This was our third match in the row, so we were a bit tired and despite our best efforts, we lost the first half 2-6. The Idsall attacking and defensive sides were equally very strong and they hadn’t had a match immediately before, so were fresh. Unfortunately, we lost this game 4-12.

SPORTS REPORT: 25/09/19 (U16 Girls Netball)

Concord College 16 & under Girls vs. Tettenhall College – Score: 30-14 Loss

Team List: Karina (Captain), Carissa,  Eve,  Mimi,  Jennifer, Aimee, Flori, Joanne.

On 25th September, we took our u16 netball team to Tettenhall College. It was our first match of the season, so we wanted to get off to a good start. We started the game playing well – We worked together nicely and made some brilliant passes. Tettenhall also played well and their shooters were very consistent. We finished the first quarter down 2 goals at 5-3. The gap between us was small so we were determined to close this within the next quarter, which we managed to for the first part of the quarter… But then Tettenhall played very strongly and managed to pull away 12-7. After the first half we ensured to make some changes to our game play in areas where we were making common mistakes and we were then prepared to go into the third quarter. Unfortunately, this quarter was the best for Tettenhall as their shooters were getting fantastic shots and were also very consistent. We couldn’t manage to keep up with their good attack and defence, so we finished the quarter losing 24-10. Before the last quarter we made some changes in positions, so some people were out of their natural position due to the fact some players were missing today through injuries and other commitments. However, we were determined to improve on our last quarter and were able to do so as we gained 4 more goals. The final score was 30-14 to Tettenhall. We will take learning points into practices, so we can progress as a team. Overall, it was a great game and a deserved win for our opponents.

SPORTS REPORT: 25/09/19 (U16 Girls Basketball)

Concord College 16 & under Girls vs. Thomas Telford – Score: 35-12 Win

Team List: Merissa, Myrtle, Tiffany, Yumiko, Thasya, Tanya, Aerin, Wiroyo, Liza, Gaby, Jia and Sophia.

On Wednesday 25th September, the U16 girls’ basketball team travelled to Thomas Telford for a friendly game. This was our first match of the season in which the girls performed brilliantly displaying team work and rigour. We were happy to come back with a comfortable win of 35-12, which was rewarded by a pit stop at KFC! The starting five of the first quarter consisted of Thasya, Myrtle, Tanya, Liza and Merissa, where they scored consistent lay ups and elbow shots giving a comfortable lead of 8-2. The girls’ fitness and communication skills were put to test when they defended man to man running up and down the court with the opposing team.

As we progressed to the second quarter, Winona, Aerin, Tiffany and Yumiko were subbed on in, showing strong skills of both defence and offense bringing the score up to 15-4. Lots of resilience was displayed by the girls, despite being up against the strong Telford girls. This was impressive as it was the first time a few of the team members had ever played in a game. At the start of the second half, our senior players Sophia, Gaby and Jia were subbed on leading our junior players into a more intense half. Team work was once again displayed, and many beautiful shots were scored bringing us up to our final score of 35-12. We look forward to having more games and matches against other schools in the future as we truly enjoy our basketball.
