Outdoor education trip to Hollowford (F4)

Recently, Concord’s Form 4s enjoyed a 3-day trip to the Hollowford Centre, an outdoor activity centre located in the heart of the Peak District National Park. The Centre is part of the Lindley Educational Trust, which aims to promote the development of young people and has been providing outdoor learning since 1965. Concord students engaged in a total of 7 off-site activities such as abseiling, caving, hill walking, canoeing, and weaselling, as well as on-site team building activities such as raft building.

Accompanied by a member of Concord staff and a specialist centre Instructor, students were divided into small groups. “I think that my favourite activity from the trip was probably abseiling,” student, Frankie said. “Although it was short lived, I found it more refreshing and entertaining compared to other activities because I wasn’t scared of heights and could watch everyone else abseil down the rope with a green face! I really enjoyed how it motivated us as a team to help and support each other when we were unsure or scared to take the next step. Mr. Canney making a funny face while abseiling down was definitely my favourite part of it.”

“It made me proud to see how students and staff got ‘stuck’ in the activities,” commented Mr Tilson, biology teacher and Duke of Edinburgh Leader. “I value Hollowford centre because of the range of activities they offer and the professionalism and skills of the instructors. I think everyone had the chance

to try some new skills, whether that was abseiling off a viaduct, building a raft (and falling off it!), archery, rock climbing or the dreaded ‘weaselling’. And that is to name but a few of the things we got up to. Students impressed me with their courage, teamwork and especially their support for each other in the face of new challenges. So many memories were made”.

Thank you to everyone in Form 4 and of course to the tutors and staff who came with us. They worked hard together, to make this year’s visit such a success. Pictures will be on display in the science block soon, come by and see what we all got up to!
