Duke of Edinburgh Awards

“Your Duke of Edinburgh award is a world-renowned mark of achievement that will help you stand out. It shows you’re invested in your future; you want to learn and progress in life, you respond well to challenges and you can problem solve”.

At Concord, we support interested students in completing all three levels of Duke of Edinburgh awards. Students might spend a weekend hiking in the beautiful Shropshire Hills, completing their volunteer experience or expanding their knowledge of a new skill.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, founded in the United Kingdom in 1956, encourages personal discovery, self-reliance, social interaction and team work in young people.

It has since expanded to 144 nations and is a recognised mark of achievement, where students can complete Bronze, Silver and Gold qualifications.

To complete their Duke of Edinburgh award, students undertake activities in four sections; volunteering, skills, physical recreation and expedition. They must demonstrate improvement through understanding, persistence and achievement.

“The DofE has been an integral part of my character-building since starting my Bronze award in Form 3. It has given me the opportunity to explore what I am capable of and achieve things that I never thought I could”

—– Anders (2023 Alumni and a UK Duke of Edinburgh Ambassador 2022/23)

Concord students can begin D of E in Form 3 and continue right through the school. Last year Concordians were awarded Bronze, Silver and Gold levels, with four students receiving their Gold Awards a Buckingham Palace.
