Extra (Activities)

Skills Extra (Activities) is an optional programme for students who wish to develop in a particular activity or skill through expert tuition and is available for those student selecting either English or a Science, Maths, Economics programme, it is not available for students who select the University Preparation programmes. Tuition takes place in small groups.

The Skills Extra programme generally takes place Monday to Friday (except Wednesday) from 1530. Students will receive tuition and guidance from a coach in their chosen skill consisting of 5 x 90 minute lessons.

There is a supplement payable for Skills Extra and places are limited on this programme. Students can only select a maximum of 2 Skills Extra  (from either the Private Tuition or optional Activities Skills Extra programme).

Student First Aid Certificate £125

Students receive tuition from a St John Ambulance qualified trainer covering such first aid skills as how to deal with allergic reactions, asthma attacks, bleeds and bruising, burns and scalds, choking, communication and casualty care, fainting, low blood sugar, bone, muscle and joint injuries, recovery position and resuscitation.  Students will be awarded with a certificate detailing what aspects of First Aid they have trained in from St John Ambulance at the end of the course.  The programme fee includes a £25 charitable donation to St John Ambulance.

Golf £225

Expert tuition from professional golf coaches at a level appropriate to the ability of the individual student.  Students will attend Shrewsbury Golf Club for their lessons – an 18-hole course, founded in 1891, boasting mature parkland with tree lined fairways and fast greens.  Golf equipment is provided at no extra charge.

Mountain Biking (GoMTB) £225

Go MTB is a progressive mountain bike achievement award that will enable the student to advance their technical riding skills as well as learning how to look after themselves, their bike, the environment, and other people.  All equipment will be provided.  Due to the nature of this activity, age, height, weight and ability restrictions may apply and students will be required to complete a  Mountain Biking Registration Form before arrival.

Maximum Weight  90 kg (dependent on height)

Tennis £225

Students receive tuition and advice from a qualified tennis coach and play matches against each other with critique on performance from the coach.  All equipment is provided.

Age: 10-17 Maximum size of group: 12

Horse Riding £250

This activity is at a local stables.  Each session consists of at least one hour’s riding covering flatwork and hacking/jumping along with stable management. Hard hats are provided but students should ensure they have appropriate footwear and must wear long trousers, not shorts.  Students will be required to complete a Horse Riding Registration Form before arrival which will allow the stables to place them in the appropriate level group.
