Excursions and Supervision

Leisure & Social Programme

Concord has a Recreation Team made up of Art, Outdoor Education, Performing Arts and Sports staff.  These teams arrange a wide range of activities for students to participate in after lessons and at the weekend, both on and off campus, which are suitable for all ages and abilities:

Activities on-campus

Activities on campus are free (inclusive of the course fee), and include:

  • Art

    • Badminton

    • Footgolf
    • Golf
    • Swimming
    • Tennis
    • Volleyball
  • Outdoor pursuits
    • Climbing wall
    • Cycling
    • High ropes

Activities off-campus

There are a number of activities arranged off-campus and some of the these may incur an additional cost, for example:

  • Outdoor pursuits
    • Canoeing
    • Hill walking
    • Mountain biking
    • White water rafting
  • Social
    • Bowling
    • Cinema
    • Ice-skating
    • Karting
    • Laserquest
    • Paintballing

Excursions

There is one 1/2 day trip on a Wednesday afternoon, and a full day trip on either a Saturday or Sunday every weekend.  Towns and cities visited in the past include:

  • Birmingham
  • Bristol
  • Cambridge
  • Chester
  • Cardiff
  • Liverpool
  • Manchester
  • Nottingham
  • Oxford
  • Shrewsbury or Telford – every Wednesday afternoon
  • Stratford-upon-Avon

Supervision

Juniors have an organised and supervised timetable of events after lessons that they are encouraged to participate in.  They must register at certain points with an Activity Assistant during the leisure and social times in the afternoon and evening on campus.

Seniors have the option to take part in after class activities on campus but also the freedom to socialise in the common areas with newly made friends to develop independence.

Excursion Supervision for students Age 10-12

  • Supervised for all excursions by a teacher
  • Ratio of 1 teacher:6 students

Excursion Supervision for students Age 13

  • Supervised for large towns/small cities and large cities
  • Parental choice for enclosed parks and attractions and small towns

Excursion Supervision for students Age 14-17

  • Parental discretion

The Course Director will make the final decision regarding supervision.  All students will:

  • Be supervised on the coach journey to the venue
  • Have contact details of the trip leader and accompanying staff
  • Have a map of the place being visited
  • Be shown where the meeting point is where a member of staff will be located throughout the duration of the trip
  • Have a card with contact details to show a retail/shop assistant, police etc if they need help

Unsupervised students will be required to check in at the meeting point at designated times throughout the trip and must remain in a minimum student group size of 4
