Concord’s

Music and Dance from Around the World

Thursday November 9, 2017

More than 300 Concord students return to Theatre Severn on Saturday November 18th to perform ‘Music and Dance from Around the World’ to what is hoped will be a sell out audience. Once again, Concord College will showcase its cultural diversity as our students perform in traditional costumes and on authentic folk instruments. There will be performances from a number of college societies. Such highlights will include an ancient Chinese legend re-enacted on stage, a traditional Greek piece featuring the chamber ensemble and choir, and the British Society will perform a dance medley incorporating musical influences from different eras. The concert has - in recent years, attracted audiences from Shrewsbury and the wider Shropshire area including VIP guest the Mayor of Shrewsbury and has regularly raised over £3,000 for local charities. Said Concord’s Head of Music, Stavros Kokkinos:  “Our students are looking forward to sharing their vibrant global culture at Shropshire’s beautiful theatre.” Said Principal Neil Hawkins:  “This is education in the most important sense of the word – the students involved are developing their talents, self-confidence, team-work and sense of social responsibility with such an excellent amount of money being raised for good local causes. “For many of the 300-plus students taking part, this could be the first time they have performed on a big stage. Also, for most of the students, their parents will not see this show, so we shall be grateful for all the public support that can be given – the young people will really appreciate it.” Tickets priced at £15 are still available from the Theatre Severn Box Office (01743 281281) or mail@theatresevern.co.uk.
