A Concord student is a Taekwondo martial art champion. Danylo in 6.1 recently won the Taekwondo 14-17 year olds under 60kg championship at the Taekwondo Federation Birmingham Open. He knocked out his opponent who lay on the canvass for five minutes. It was his second successive Birmingham Open title which he hopes to turn into a third next year. Danylo trains at Universal Taekwondo, part of the London Road Sports Centre in Shrewsbury, under instructor James Kessler. James, whose title is Master James Kessler, holds the rank of 7th Dan which is a 7th Degree Black Belt. He said: “Danylo is a very dedicated student who manages to keep on top of his studies and training at a very high level. “His next belt test will be for his First Degree Black Belt some time next year.  He trains very hard and is a most dedicated, enthusiastic member of our club.” And Danylo said of his sport: “Taekwondo, as a martial code, includes courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control and indomitable spirit.” Danylo, who plans to study law at university, has been at Concord since Form 3 and has been learning Taekwondo since the age of 4.
