Sixth form geography students from Concord braved the elements including gale force winds and blizzards in a packed five day field trip to the land of ‘fire and ice’ where they also helped to rescue a motorist stranded up an icy track!

Concord library celebrated its 5th birthday at the beginning of the Summer Term 2015. Here are some images from over the last 5 years which might bring back some happy memories.

The Summer term’s sporting calendar of House competitions began with the Swimming Gala on Sunday 26th April.  A large crowd gathered to cheer on the swimmers and to enjoy the barbecue and refreshments provided by the kitchen on the lawn by the pool on a beautiful Spring day! Many thanks to Mr Hudson and Photography Club for the images.

‘Inspiring,' ‘intriguing’ and ‘thought provoking’ -  the much anticipated Concord Readers & Writers Festival  was a fantastic and memorable week for the whole of the Concord community. Students, staff and guests were stimulated, challenged and entertained by a huge variety of speakers and events and all in the same week as the Concord library celebrated its 5th birthday!

As part of the Readers & Writers Festival Concord welcomed award-winning wildlife photographer Andrew Fusek Peters to the school alongside fifteen birds of prey from Feather Perfect.  Andrew hosted a wildlife photography workshop with students studying AS photography and Photography Club members. After discussing cameras and technique, the student photograhers practised portraits and flying shots with the birds of prey before a wonderful public flying display to which all of the school and local community were invitedThank you to Mr Hudson and the Photography Club for the images.

The Form 4 GCSE Drama Company performed two 25 minute comedic farces, The Proposal and The Bear by Anton Chekhov, as part of their GCSE assesed work.  In a first in recent years, the group chose to perform their assessed pieces in the Conference Room, instead of the Concord theatre, as a more appropriate setting for these two plays set in 19th Century Russian country houses.

On Monday 4th May Concord staff and students gathered on the lawn behind the Main House for the annual college photo shoot.  Everyone dressed to impress and apart from the official photos there were many opportunities to take informal pictures and selfies.

The final event of the 2015 Inter-house competition, the first ever combined Lower School and Sixth Form Sports Day took place on 29th April. With the overall Inter-house competition so close, it was vital that four houses put in a strong performance and it certainly made for a very exciting day of athletics with many turning out to support their house in the lovely Spring sunshineThank you to Photography Club for the images.

The Form 4 BTEC music students organised a charity fundraising concert in aid of the British Red Cross as part of their examined course. The lively and varied programme including solo, duet and group performances and was very well compered by Anna Kerslake (F4) and Melody Hung (F4).  The BTEC group were responsible for the organisation and smooth running of the evening including co-ordinating backstage and some of the technical aspects of the show

The 6.2 Leavers of 2015 were treated to a splendid evening to celebrate their final term at the college.  As is the tradition at Concord, this was the last formal occasion for the senior students, before they leave the college and embark upon the next stage of their education.  It was a time to celebrate the success of this very talented group of young people and to reflect upon their achievements.

Much fun was had by at the annual inter boarding house fun sports competition held on 29th May. This year the events included the egg and spoon, space hopper, three-legged, hoop and sack races which were all keenly contested. Congratulations to the Red House girls and Wrekin House boys who were awarded the trophies this year!

The Lower School Dinner, which took place on 30th May, was a formal celebration of the academic and extra-curricular successes of the students in Forms 3, 4 and 5 over the year. It is also a special evening when everyone gets to put on their smartest clothes and enjoy a fabulous meal

On Thursday 4th June the students in Form 3 performed an abridged version of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet to an audience of staff, parents and students.  This special event in the amphitheatre outside the West End at Concord was a first for Form 3 and an opportunity to celebrate the varied talents of an exceptional group of students. Many thanks to Mr Hudson for the wonderful images.

On Saturday 6th June 6.1 students at Concord were treated to an end of year dinner. The evening was a chance to celebrate the end of a successful year, award the subject prizes and to bring the year group together for a sophisticated social event.

Concord’s sports teams (pictured below) celebrated a successful year with the annual presentation of sports awards.  All students who have represented the college were acknowledged, as were some outstanding team performances. The Albert Leon trophy for the greatest individual contribution to sport at Concord was awarded at final assembly to Dami Adebayo who is pictured below with the other nominees for the award, Rachel Chiu and Rex Li.
