The 50 new students who arrived in January were given a warm welcome by the Concord Prefect team who organsised some fun & games in the Sports Hall as part of the Induction Programme.
The sixth annual Concord Fashion show took place at the on Saturday 25th January in the Concord theatre. This sell-out evening featured clothes designed by students studying for GCSE, AS or A level art on a theme of ‘Elements’.
Over fifty models wore an amazing range of creative designs produced by over 30 designers made out of a variety of fabrics and materials from silk to art straws and mirrors.
The Starry Night Concert took place in the Concord theatre on 8th February. Now an annual event and organised entirely by the students of the Outreach Society, the concert featured the singing and dancing talents of a host of our very own Concord ‘Stars.’
The evening which had a romantic theme in anticipation of Valentine’s Day was a sell-out success and raised over £600 for MENCAP.
Concord students studying A ans AS level Art enjoyed a trip to two London galleries - Tate Britain and the Saatchi Gallery. They were hoping to find inspiration for the coursework and exam projects. Thank you to Jeffrey Su (6.2) for these wonderful images.
Over 230 former Concord students who had attended the college in the last six years – the majority are still at university in the UK – attended the reunion on February 15th. Thank you to the Photgraphy Prefects for the wonderful images.
The South Shropshire Hunt came to Concord on a beautuful spring day in March. The students look forward to this annual event as it is a chance to experience up close a traditional rural pastime and see the fantastic horses and hounds! Concord students have been busy preparing for the annual International Concert which will be performed again this year at Theatre Severn in Shrewsbury on Sunday March 16th. Concord students performed the annual International Concert at Theatre Severn in Shrewsbury on March 16th in front of an audience of over 600 including the Mayor of Shrewsbury, local Rotarians and members of the Shropshire Federation of Women's Institutes. It was a colourful and spectacular evening showcasing music and dance from around the world. The concert also raised a significant sum of money for charities supported by Rotary and the WI.
A lot of fun was had at the inter boarding house sports and 'Bake Off' competition. Over £260 was raised for the Sport Relief charity with the sale of ice-creams and cakes and there was much hilarity as a result of falling off space hoppers or crashing to the floor after leap frogging another! Congratulations to Mr Leighton (& the Smithy) for the best cupcakes and to Bell House girls and Bell House boys for winning the fun sports. GCSE Drama students in Form 5 performed two pieces as part of their exam this week. They performed extracts from two quite contrasting and challenging plays for the examiner in the Concord theatre.
Concord's Eco Club oarganised an event to mark Earth Hour on Sunday 23rd March. Students were encouraged to switch off all unnecessary lights and electrical appliances and to join the concert by candlelight in the West End. Fairtrade snacks were served and there were sparklers and an Eco treasure hunt in the dark!
A group of Concord students and staff enjoyed a trip to Normandy at the start of the Easter holiday. The visit focused on the sites of historical interest and included Bayeux, Mont Saint-Michel and Omaha beach although it was the French food and the 5* coach that proved to be the most popular!
