Budding economists from Concord’s Lower School have made it through to an international competition’s semi-finals. The Ultimate Investors team at Concord is through to the last 500 of the Student Investor Challenge which originally attracted an entry of 6,500 teams.
To reach the semi finals, the team of Jina Kim, Robert Smith, Patrick Crowe and Sam Kwok were up against A level students – and teacher teams – from around the world. The Concord Form 4 students even beat teams from Eton and Sevenoaks.
Although each member of the team is interested in economics, and is planning to study the subject at A level, only Sam is currently studying economics at GCSE.
Said Concord economics teacher David Farell: “When the competition started the team had a notional £100,000 to invest on the stock market.
“Since October they have made over £13,000 profit buying and selling shares. They have made some very good decisions through their portfolio performance and finished in the top three percent of schools from around the world.
“It is great to see the Lower School students take responsibility for their enrichment at Concord.”
In the semi final, which starts on February 20, the Ultimate Investors team will be required to predict the price of certain shares over a weekly period. Eight teams from the semi final will go through to the final.
