Son et Lumiere to Celebrate 65th Anniversary
Concord is celebrating its 65th anniversary with a ‘Son et Lumière’ light and sound show on Saturday. The spectacle will take place at Concord starting at 9.30 pm and through images and animations projected onto the back of the main building will depict the history of the college from 1949 to 2014.
KL Reunion August 2014
Over 450 former students, current students, future students, staff and their friends and families attended the 65th Anniversary Dinner in KL in August. Guests had travelled from countries from all over the world including Hong Kong, China, Vietnam, Greece, Italy, Thailand, Singapore and the UK to attend the party in the Grand Ballroom at the Hilton in Sentral KL
Concord in Top 10 in GCSE League Table
Concord’s outstanding GCSE results have led to a top ten placing in a national league table published at the weekend. Concord is ranked 6th in The Times table (co-educational schools) and 31st in The Telegraph (all schools) which are the highest rankings ever achieved by the college in these national GCSE league tables.
Concord Ranked in Top 5 Schools in the UK
Concord’s outstanding A level results have led to success once again in the national league tables published over the weekend. In a table based on data compiled by the ISC (Independent Schools Council) of the top 100 schools in the UK Concord was ranked fourth. This is the fourth year running that Concord has been ranked in the top 5 independent schools in the UK in this table which is based on points per candidate.
STOP PRESS! Concord Announces Best Ever GCSE Results!
Lower School students have achieved the Concord’s best ever results at GCSE this summer with a record number of A* grades (317) being awarded to this talented group of 56 Form 5 students. A superb 56.1% percent of all grades awarded to Concord students were A* and 86.2% of grades awarded were A* or A which are also records for the college.
Olga's Summer School Scholarship
Russian student Olga Blinova only found out a week before it started that she had won a scholarship to attend Summer School at Concord College. She successfully applied for a visa in five days – normally it takes a month – and she was able to attend the August summer course without missing a day.
STOP PRESS! Concord Announces Best Ever A Level Results
Concord College is delighted to its best ever A Level results this year with a superb 43 percent of all grades awarded being A* and 81 percent of all grades awarded to candidates from Concord were A* or A. Ninety- five percent of all grades awarded were A*,A or B which is equals the record of the previous two years
Summer School Trip to Watch Manchester United
Students from many parts of the world not only have education in common – but football. A party of more 66 who are attending the Concord College Summer School travelled to Old Trafford last night (Tuesday) to watch their favourite team Manchester United.
Two Sisters from Italy Follow their Father to Summer School
Two sisters have travelled from Italy to take part in the Concord College Summer School in August. Chiara, 16, and Sara, 11, are daughters of Palmino Di Giacinto whom with his brother Luca attended a Summer School at Concord in 1989 and 1990.
Students Learn Croquet!
Students at Concord this summer have been learning the art of croquet, including Angelina Malykhina and Yelizaveta Psyarenko from Russia (pictured). They are among 240 students, aged nine to 17, from over 35 countries attending Summer School.
Following in his Father's Foorsteps
The son of a former Head Boy at Concord is following in his father’s footsteps. Timur Ozyurek, 13, who is from Istanbul, attended Summer School at Concord in July where his father Omer spent three years and was Head Boy in his final year 1987.
65th Anniversary Celebration in KL
It is now only two weeks until Concord’s 65th anniversary dinner in Kuala Lumpur at the KL Hilton Sentral Hotel on Saturday 9th August. Already more than 300 have signed up to attend the celebration with guests travelling from Hong Kong, China, Thailand, Italy, United Kingdom as well as Malaysia and Singapore.
Summer School Scholarships
Scholarships have been awarded by Concord to two students for its Summer School in July. The recipients are Iro Verriopolous, 16, from Greece, and Adam Czyzewski, 16, from Poland
Summer school with a Difference
This year Summer School at Concord is underway with a difference. The highly ranked Concord College summer school – adjudicated as second best of its kind in the country – has introduced new initiatives for nearly 240 students from many parts of the world.
Over 500 Bags of Unwanted Items are Donated to Local Charity Hope House
Bags of clothes worth an estimated £10,340 have been donated by students at Concord to Hope House, a local children’s hospice. Two van collections picked up a total of 517 bags – each worth an estimated £20 to the Hope House shops – at the end of term.
Mandi Rewarded for her Endeavour
A Concord laboratory technician was thrilled to be presented with an ‘Endeavour Award’ in a ceremony at a neighbouring county college. Mandi Gilbert, completed her NVQ Level 3 in laboratory and technical activities in 12 months rather than the expected 18 months
Staff and students have said ‘goodbye’ to two long serving members of staff at the end of the summer term. Elizabeth Leon and Hilary Parker are both retiring and looking forward to new chapters in their lives.
'Escape to the Country' film at Concord
A production crew for a BBC show was ‘democratic’ in their praise of Concord’s grounds, a location chosen for filming. When the BBC’s Escape to the Country production team recently visited Acton Burnell, they filmed the Parliamentary Barn in the grounds of the college for the introduction to the show which will be screened later this year.
Concert Raises Over £4000 for Charity
Charities of two Shropshire Rotary clubs as well as the Shropshire Women’s Institute (WI) movement have benefitted from a Concord concert which has raised over £3,500. The annual International Concert was held last term at Theatre Severn and a Rotary bucket collection on the night raised a further £500 bringing the total raised to more than £4000.
Record ESB Results
Lower School students at Concord have achieved the best-ever results in English Speaking Board (ESB) examinations which they took earlier this term. One hundred students in the Forms 3 and 4 passed – all with distinction or merit plus.
