Concord Student Breaks Rubik Cube Record

A Concord student is breaking records – in Rubik Cube competitions. And for one of them he was blindfolded! Sixth form student Ainesh Sevellaraja who is studying for A levels at Concord has just competed in the World Cube Association North London Open Competition where he broke 5 national records.

Hall Meadow Landscaping

Work has begun on the re-landscaping of Hall Meadow at the front of Concord to transform what was agricultural land into sports pitches, a running track, a wildflower meadow, an ecology pond and parkland with mown footpaths.

Geography Students Learn about 'Doing it in Wellies'

Seventy Concord students studying geography at GCSE and A level were fascinated by a talk based on ‘Doing it in Wellies’ delivered by smallholder Sam Gray.

Graffiti Project Inspired by a Life Story

Students at Concord produced a graffiti wall in memory of the life of Frank Bell, a previous owner whose idea was to create international harmony through education. As a tribute to Frank Bell, whose patronage was significant in inspiring the vision and ambition of the college, a 5.5 metre x 2.5 metre mural has been graffiti painted by 21 Form 4 students studying art.

Concord Team Through to National Final in Chemistry Competition

When it comes to the iron content in iron tablets, a team from Concord can tell the manufacturers they know the answer. For they ‘ironed out’ the answer in the regional final of the Royal Society of Chemistry’s national competition. As a result, the team now goes forward to the national final in June

Concord Students Selected for Training Camps

Success in national physics and astronomy competitions has resulted in two Concord students being selected for training camps at Lincoln College, Oxford University. The training camps which were held over the Easter holiday were for the selection of the British Physics Olympiad and British Astronomy Olympiad teams.

Top National Speaker Award for Concord Student

Sixth former Lottie Cansdale was voted best speaker as the Concord senior public speaking team narrowly missed out on a win in the national final of a top public speaking competition last weekend.

Speaking Skills put to the test in MFL Debate

Earlier this term 24 sixth form students came together at Concord for the 4th annual Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) inter-school debate between Concord and Wrekin College. Debates were held in French, German and Spanish on a wide variety of topics including the legalisation of cannabis, European immigration quotas, electric cars and bullfighting.

Join Mr Hawkins for a Half Marathon in aid of UNICEF

Join Mr Hawkins in his 50, 50, (50) challenge to run in the Royal Parks Half Marathon on Sunday 9th October 2016 in Central London where he is hoping that a team of 50 from Concord will run to raise £50,000 for UNICEF.

Oxford Welcomes MFL Students

Fifteen Concord Lower School students participated in a day of activities to learn about the Modern Foreign Languages Department at Oxford University. Organised especially for Concord and Church Stretton School, the group experienced a comprehensive programme led by the Head of Modern Foreign Languages at Pembroke College, Dr Tim Farrant.

Sixth Form Girls Enjoy Visit to Goldman Sachs

Career opportunities in the finance sector were explored by a group of Concord students. Eight girls from the sixth form were selected to visit the London offices of Goldman Sachs where they have been introduced to the opportunities available for college graduates.

Public Speaking Team Through to National Final

Concord’s senior public speaking team is through to the final of a top national public speaking competition for the third time. Representing Concord in the final, will be speaker Lottie Cansdale, chair Meg Margetts and vote of thanks Annabelle Lim.

Students Busking for Back-Up

Eleven Concord students studying BTEC Music will be busking in a busy shopping street to raise funds for The Back-Up Trust which is celebrating its 30th anniversary. The Form 4 students will be performing a repertoire of popular songs and playing instruments outside Boots on Pride Hill in Shrewsbury on Saturday March 5 from 11.00 am onwards.

Ski Trip to Italy

A group of Concord students enjoyed a ski trip to Italy over half term accompanied by four members of staff. From beginners to more experienced skiers the daily lessons with qualified instructors enabled everyone to improve their skills and the evenings were equally busy enjoying a fun packed après ski programme.

Concord students vote on Brexit Debate

Students from many different nationalities at Concord voted at the end of a debate on whether the UK should remain a member of the European Union or leave. By a narrow majority, the students voted to stay in the EU

Former Head Boy Awarded Engineering Scholarship

Concord’s former Head Boy, Dami Adebayo, who is now studying engineering at Cambridge University is celebrating his successful application for a Diamond Jubilee Scholarship from the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).

Top Awards in Biology Olympiad

It has been a record year for Concord students participating in the 2016 Biology Olympiad with not only a larger than ever number of 6.2 students entering the competition but also a record number of Concord ‘Biology Olympians’ going on to achieve the top awards.

Fashion Show 2016

The eighth annual Concord Fashion Show took place at the on Saturday 30th January with a professional style catwalk inside the indoor marquee in the Sports Hall with an audience of 400!

Library Prefects Support Severn Hospice

The Concord library prefect team has chosen the Severn Hospice as their charity of the year. And following a sale of second hand books and DVDs the students presented a cheque for three thousand pounds to Severn Hospice’s Fundraising Manager Lucy Ruff.
