Concord In FT Top Ten
For the first time in its 60 year history Concord is officially in the country’s top 10 schools according to the rankings produced by the Financial Times last weekend.
Concert is a Triumph!
The annual Spring concert is being hailed as one of the best ever seen at Concord. More than 150 students at Concord College took part in three performances in the theatre on March 5th, 11th and 12th and on the final night performed to VIP guest, the Mayor of Shrewsbury.
World Book Day Delight!
Students and staff have been revealing what ‘delights’ give them the most pleasure in life as part of World Book Day celebrations.
On 27th February over one hundred and thirty former students attended the Concord reunion held at the college.
At Half Term a group of students visited the exciting and vibrant Spanish city of Barcelona in a trip organised by the Modern Languages and Art Departments.
Thanks for Life
Concord students have joined the effort to eradicate polio throughout the world by supporting the Rotary ‘Thanks for Life’ campaign.
Four of Concord’s talented students put on a Fashion Show at the beginning of February and the clothes that they designed were all inspired by the theme of climate change.
The spring term has brought great news for twelve 6.2 students at Concord as they have received their eagerly awaited offers to study at Oxford and Cambridge.
Award for Esther
Concord student Esther Tan has received an award for representing her country at fencing in an awards ceremony earlier this month.
Congratulations to one of Concord’s public speaking teams who won of the first round of the Rotary Youth Speaks competition, an annual national public speaking competition for young people.
The Outreach Society at Concord launched an appeal to help the victims of the Haiti earthquake and in less than a fortnight has raised over £1000.
Award in National Final
The Form 3 Robotics team reached the quarter final stage in the First Lego League National Final at Loughborough University and narrowly missed out on a place at the European Open Championship in Istanbul. They did however come away with another trophy as runners-up in the robot design and programming category.
Vanessa Wong (Form 3) is proving to be one of the top Go board game players in the UK. She gained third place in the 36th London Open recently in which 115 Go players – all older than her - took part.
Over £600 has been raised for Amnesty International as a result of designing and producing a calendar.
Cold Start in 2010!
The new intake of 46 students arrived at Concord at the beginning of the Spring Term on January 4th,with snow and plummeting temperatures, which they say has been the most challenging of the many changes they are already experiencing.
Visit to Law Courts
Earlier in the term a group of 6.1 and 6.2 law students visited the Crown Court at Shrewsbury as part of their study of the judicial system.
A robot designed by Form 3 students has won a regional heat of a national competition. The robot was designed, built and programmed by the students as part of their new Saturday morning activities programme.
Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal honoured Concord with a visit to celebrate the College’s Diamond Jubilee on Tuesday 1st December. The occasion was the first royal visit in the college’s 60 year history and she is the first member of the royal family to visit Acton Burnell since 1283.
Art Trip to Liverpool
In the last week of November the Art department including all Art and Photography students from forms 5, 6.1 and 6.2 spent the day in Liverpool to visit the superb galleries in one of the UK's great cities of culture.
Christmas Concert a Wow!
The fabulous end of term concerts performed over two nights on the 19th and 20th November were full of the 'wow' factor and a brilliant start the Christmas festivities here at Concord.
