Fayre This Sunday!
Christmas begins at Concord this weekend! The college is looking forward to hosting its first ever Christmas Fayre and is delighted that so many local retailers are supporting the event.
Operation Christmas Child
Students at Concord have collected enough gifts to fill more than 50 shoe boxes with Christmas gifts for underprivileged children in Eastern Europe.
Come to the Christmas Fayre
More than twenty shops and retailers from Shrewsbury will be supporting the first-ever Christmas Fayre at Concord on Sunday 21st November.
On Saturday 6th November students at Concord enjoyed the annual Halloween Event complete with a mini Fun Fair, Haunted House and a fancy dress disco.
Art Trip to London
The Art Department’s annual trip to the London galleries took place just before Half Term on 26th October with visits to The National Potrait Gallery, Tate Modern and Tate Britain.
Concord Wears It Pink!
Concord’s Charity Committee has raised £200 for Breast Cancer research by taking part in the national ‘Wear It Pink’ campaign on 25th October.
House Arts Competition
After its introduction last year to the Inter-House Challenge, the House Arts Competition was eagerly anticipated as the four houses battled it out in the theatre on Sunday 24th October to be the second ever winners of the coveted House Arts Shield.
New Staff Join the Team
Five new members of teaching staff have joined the Concord team this term. Two new teaching posts have been created and the others have replaced teachers who have retired.
Record Breaking Intake
Concord has broken another record with a record number of new British students joining the college this term. The latest intake of 18 British students has followed on from the previous largest intake of British students in September 2009.
Former Concord students from across the globe attended the two centre special college reunion held at Tunbridge Wells and Acton Burnell at the beginning of October.
World Teachers' Day
Students took the places of their teachers on Tuesday 5th October at Concord to mark World Teachers’ Day. From teaching in class and taking the register to wake up calls and serving coffee, students at Concord College showed their appreciation for their hard working teachers.
Vive la franglais!
Concord teacher Alistair Wyper has been successful in having an article about the French language published in a top magazine for language teachers.
Eco Club Book Sale
On the first day of a ‘unique’ second hand text book sale, students from Eco Club raised £900 for charity. Instead of text books from last year’s students going to landfill, the Eco Club, Concord's student led environmental group, decided they would try and raise some money for charity by selling them.
Lower school students reached for the heights as they took part in team building outdoor education activities on the college’s high ropes course as part of an induction week.
High Hopes for New Year
The Autumn Term is now underway at Concord and the new Head Boy and Head Girl have been working hard alongside the team of prefects to help the new students to settle in quickly.
Concord is 'Number 1'
Concord has achieved another new record: it was placed in the top spot in a national league table of schools published this week.
Concord College Lower School students have achieved outstanding results at GCSE level this summer and have succeeded in improving once again on last year’s excellent results with 81% of GCSE results this summer being awarded A* or A grades.
A Level Success
Concord College is delighted to announce another outstanding set of A Level results this year. Around 93% of all grades awarded to candidates from Concord were A*, A or B and nearly 200 A*s were awarded to this talented group of students.
After three years as a student at Concord’s summer school, Laura Ebeling has returned as a member of staff. The 19 year old is assisting head of sport and recreation, Mark Lemon, during the August course, which has record 285 students aged eight to 18 from 36 different nationalities.
Dreams of being Head Boy!
The 12 year old son of a former Head Boy at Concord has been attending summer school in July to improve his English and he hopes to return and emulate his father in the future.
