Art Trip to London
"Art students enjoyed a trip to the London galleries last week (before the winter weather closed in), including Tate Modern, the National Gallery and the National Portrait Gallery.
"Two of Concord’s talented musicians have reached the final of the Shropshire County Concerto Competition. Judy Ma (6.2) and Yoo Shin Jang (Form 5) will be hoping to win the title of Shropshire’s Young Musician of the Year at the final to be held on 27th March at Shrewsbury School’s Alington Hall.
Developments for 2013
"A multi-million pound development of facilities at Concord, including three major building projects, is expected to be fully completed by the autumn. A new boys’ boarding house, a large extension to the art school and a considerably enlarged dining room are the exciting projects which will be ready for the next academic year in September 2013.
New Term Begins
"The Spring Term began at Concord on the 6th January, 46 students have joined the College - the majority into 6.1, but several others into Form 4 and to Form 3. This intake once again means that Concord is at largest ever in its 64 year history.
"After nearly a quarter of a century as registrar and personal assistant to two principals, Avril Randall has retired from Concord at the age of 69.
"The Autumn term at Concord has finished with festive cheer with a Christmas Dinner, gift giving and the college end of term final assembly which celebrated the achievements of Concord students since September. This has been a very busy term at the college ending with internal exams for all year groups, as well as university interviews for many members of 6.2.
World Scholar's Cup
"Three Concord students have travelled to Yale University to take part in the World Scholar’s Cup. Kimberly Lo, who won her place at this prestigious global academic competition before she joined the sixth form at Concord in September, has fellow Concord students Travis Chang (6.1) and Justin Kwik (6.1) with her.
Win for Maths Team
"For the fifth successive year Concord’s senior maths team is through to the final of a national mathematics competition. And it is the first time that the team members representing Concord in the Senior Maths Team Challenge, organised by the UK Maths Trust, are all in their first year of sixth form study (6.1).
Winter Concert 2012
"The fabulous end of term concerts, performed over two nights on the 15th and 16th November to students and guests, were a showcase for the musical, dramatic and dancing talents at Concord and also raised money for Children in Need.
Operation Christmas Child
"Concord has exceeded its target of making up boxes for Operation Christmas Child this year. Concord’s Outreach Society delivered 150 Christmas boxes – the target this year was 120 – to a Shrewsbury warehouse from where they will be shipped to underprivileged youngsters overseas.
Books for Tanzania
"Unwanted textbooks are on their way to schools and libraries in Tanzania due to the hard work of Concord’s Eco Club working in partnership with the national charity Read International.
Success for Olivia
"A Concord student has represented England in a home countries pony competition – and won. Form 3 day student Olivia Poole from Dorrington, who joined Concord in September, was a member of the four rider England Under 14 team that was victorious in the Home Pony International in Cheshire.
MUN Trip to The Hague
"Eleven students from Concord attended the recent six day Model United Nations (MUN) conference in the Netherlands. The conference took place at the International School of The Hague (ISH) where over 800 delegates were sent by schools from all over the world. The theme of the conference was ‘Power and Responsibility’ and included a weekend jam-packed with debate, hard work and fun.
SOH Art Exhibition
"Jeffrey Su (6.1) is one of five Concord students whose work is currently on display at The Society of Heads (SOH) Art Exhibition 2012. This public exhibition is on display at the Bracknell Gallery in South Hill Park Arts Centre, Berkshire and was organised by LVS (Licensed Victuallers’ School) Ascot this year.
"Sixty Form 5 students at Concord College took part in a one-day creative film school offering a programme of hands-on workshops giving the budding film makers an insight into the skills and techniques required to make a ‘Blockbuster’ of their own.
"On Saturday 27th October students at Concord enjoyed the annual Halloween Event complete with Haunted House, fireworks and a fancy dress disco. With most of the activities organised by the students themselves, this ever popular evening was full of fun and a few scares!
House Arts 2012
"Now in its fourth year, the Inter-House Arts Competition was eagerly anticipated as the four houses battled it out in the theatre on Sunday 21st October to be the next winners of the coveted House Arts Shield. The question on everyone’s lips was: would U-Thant, last year’s winners be able to retain their title?
"Concord students walked off with no fewer than four trophies in the Shropshire Festival of Verse and Prose held at Moreton Hall last Friday. A total of 17 were placed either 1st, 2nd or 3rd with Alexandra Tham (6.1) winning no fewer than four classes, and Sofia Melhado (6.1) winning two.
"Concord has hosted its first primary school choir competition this week. More than 80 young student voices were enjoyed by an audience of parents and visitors to the theatre on Wednesday10th October.
"Concord Principal Neil Hawkins has raised more than £8,000 for two charities following his run in a half marathon at the weekend. He completed the Royal Parks Foundation Half Marathon, in which he ran for Teenage Cancer Trust and Cancer Research UK, in just two hours and eleven seconds.
