Concord Student Selected for CBSO Youth Orchestra
A Concord student who is only just 14 years old has been selected for the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra Youth Orchestra. Josh Mountford, who is in Form 3 at Concord, is one of 12 cellists selected for the CBSO Youth Orchestra.
Sports Awards 2014
Concord’s sports teams celebrated their success over the past year with the annual presentation of sports awards. All students who have represented the college were acknowledged as were some outstanding team performances and the Albert Leon trophy for the greatest individual contribution to sport at Concord was awarded for the first time this year.
Form 3 Student Wins Local Squash Tournament
It’s turning out to be an important year for a Form 3 student at Concord. Filip Skierski, who is in his first year as a day student at Concord, has just won his first squash championship.
6.1 Dinner & Prizes
On Saturday 7th June 6.1 students at Concord were treated to an end of year dinner. The evening was a chance to celebrate the end of a successful year, award the subject prizes and to bring the year group together for a sophisticated social event.
Students in Form 3 Raise £800 for Breast Cancer Charity
Over two days, four Concord Lower School students raised more than £800 for a breast cancer charity. The group in Form 3 worked non-stop cleaning cars as well as baking and selling cakes.
The Concordians Project
Members the Concord Photography Club have been describing their new 83 page book of black and white photographs intended as a piece of art. ‘The Concordians’ has been compiled under the guidance of Concord’s Head of Art, Anthony Hudson, to show the range of emotions, experiences and stories experienced within the school community over the course of the last two years.
Lower School Dinner
The Lower School Dinner, which took place on 31st May, was a formal celebration of the academic and extra-curricular successes of the students in Forms 3, 4 and 5 over the year. It is also a special evening when everyone gets to put on their smartest clothes and enjoy a fabulous meal!
Success for Swimming Team in County Gala
A team from Concord took part in the Shropshire County Secondary Schools Swimming gala recently with Lucy Fairbanks setting a new Shropshire record. In what it is hoped will be an annual event, the Concord team competed against other schools from the local area.
Students Donate to Shrewsbury Food Bank
Concord has donated £200 worth of food to Shrewsbury Food Bank in an initiative promoted by the college’s Christian Union and has pledged to support the organisation again in the near future.
Invitation to Celebrate Concord's 65th Anniversary
2014 is Concord’s 65th anniversary. As part of the celebrations, we are holding a dinner in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday 9th August. Mr Hawkins would like to extend the invitation to the Reunion in KL to all friends of Concord past, present and future.
Concord Student in Top 5% in Biology Olympiad
Concord has a biology student amongst the top five per cent in the country. Christopher Wong in 6.2 passed through to the second round of this year’s national Biology Olympiad for which he was awarded a gold medal.
Graduation Ball 2014
The 6.2 Leavers of 2014 were treated to a splendid evening to celebrate their final term at the college. As is the tradition at Concord, this was the last formal occasion for the senior students, before they leave the college and embark upon the next stage of their education. It was a time to celebrate the success of this very talented group of young people and to reflect upon their achievements.
Mandela win Inter-house Trophy Competition
In an exciting competition this year, Mandela has won the Concord Inter-house trophy in the first year of the newly renamed houses - Gandhi, Mandela, Pankhurst & Teresa. With over twenty events being contested over three terms, it was a very hard fought competition, with Pankhurst coming a very close second with just two points between the top teams.
Best Ever Results in Physics Competitions
Concord has achieved its best ever results – in numbers and successes – in national physics competitions. Over 90 participants took part in physics challenges which augers well for the future of the STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) subjects.
STOP PRESS! Third Place for Public Speakers in Rotary Youth Speaks final
Concord’s most successful ever public speaking team represented Shropshire in the national final of the Rotary Youth Speaks competition at the weekend and finished a commendable third.
Graduation Ball Live!
We are delighted to announce that this year for the first time Concord will be live streaming the 6.2 graduation ceremony over the internet from the 6.2 Ball on Saturday 10th May 2014.
Scholarship for Irene
A Concord student has won a scholarship to study medicine and engineering at a highly prestigious summer school in Hong Kong. Irene Chan in 6.1 will spend two weeks in July at the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
Student's Poem to be Published
A poem written by a Concord student is to be published in a special anthology scheduled for publication this summer. ‘What a World…’ is the title of the poem submitted to a Young Writers competition by Ashley Lim in 6.1.
Activity Day for Local Prep School
Concord College has hosted an activity day, the first of its type, for year 6 and 7 boys from Shrewsbury High School Prep department. And \\\'activity\\\' certainly was the order of the day – as the 20 boys soon found out on their arrival!
Win for Year 10 Maths Team
A team of four from Concord is through to the regional final of the Year 10 Mathematics Competition 2014. The team of Danan Bai, Chon Wai Ho, Taisiya Trebunskikh and Alexander Dergachev won their regional heat against six competing teams at Telford Conference Centre.
