Best Speaker award for Lucy

Thursday, March 30, 2017

For the second consecutive year a Concord student has come away with a trophy in a national public speaking competition. Lucy Hampton has followed in the footsteps of Lottie Cansdale who have now both been voted Best Speaker in the national final of the Business and Professional Women’s Public Speaking Competition.

Said a delighted Lucy: “I am very proud.  Given the high standard of the competition, it was quite unexpected.  The competition was very close.”

Although she is a boarder, Lucy’s home is near Bridgnorth where her family breed Swiss Saanen white goats and make goats cheese.

Said English teacher Sasha Lake who mentored the Concord team:  “The four national finalists who competed from throughout the UK achieved a very high standard which was commented upon by the panel of three judges.

“The judges described Lucy’s delivery as excellent.  She produced a really well researched speech in which her delivery stood out.  She was really clear and really engaging.

“Her thorough knowledge of her subject, ‘The joy of stats,’ was particularly evident during the question and answer session and commented upon by the judges who were most impressed.

“Although we didn’t win the national final, the Concord team worked extremely hard on the feedback received from the regional final and responded to that feedback as part of their preparation.

“I am now looking forward to selecting and coaching Concord’s public speaking teams for next year’s competitions,” she added.

The Concord team comprised Lucy as speaker, Madeleine Lempert, who was chairperson and Onyinye Enwereji, who was vote of thanks.
